How it works
Page numbers are added with pdf-lib's drawText at the position you choose, on every page. The original content is not touched — numbers are drawn on top in a transparent layer.
FAQ
Can I start the numbering somewhere other than 1? Yes. The "Start numbering at" field lets you begin at any number — useful for combining a chapter into a larger document, or numbering an appendix as 100, 101, 102…
Will the numbers overlap my existing content? They're placed in the page margin (30 pixels from the edge). If your PDF has wide content all the way to the edge, the numbers may overlap. In that case, increase your PDF margins first or use a smaller font size.
Can I customize the font? Currently we use Helvetica (the standard PDF font that requires no embedding). Custom fonts would need an upload step which we want to avoid. If you need a specific look, place numbers in your authoring tool (Word, Pages) before exporting.
